Dark Queens and Their Quarry: Poems: Boneshadows of Motherskin: 2017-2019 & Hot Rod Butterfly: 2000-2014

Dark Queens and Their Quarry is the first collection of poems from Lisa King. As a lyricist and songwriter for Atlanta band The Hot Place, she is no stranger to creative wordplay. Boneshadows of Motherskin was written on her vintage Smith-Corona typewriter, every morning over coffee, during 2017-2019. Influenced by the work of Robert Bly, Aleister Crowley, Carl Jung, and Joseph Campbell, Boneshadows is a seasonal journey, which addresses the Mother Wound through mythological storytelling and archetypal imagery. In the tradition of William Blake, the collection is accompanied by a series of six illustrations made by Ms. King, related to the poetry. Hot Rod Butterfly was written between 2000 and 2014. Its rhythmic style and hallucinogenic visions are reminiscent of her Beat, Rock and Roll, Decadent, and Surrealist influences.
